cyanotype

This early photographic process dates back to the mid 1800’s and involves exposing treated paper to sunlight in order to create an image.

Images are created

Objects and transparencies placed on the treated paper create an image.

Capturing sunlight

The time of day, location, weather conditions, and season all have huge impact on the print, making the art truly reflective of a time and place.

In addition to the traditional cyanotype process, I also utilize plants such as bay laurel, to tint prints, broadening their color spectrum from the traditional blue. Tinting using natural materials adds another variable to an already changeable process.
